Capitain Of Ethiopian National Team

Thee Ethiopia women’s national football team represents Ethiopia in international women’s football. They are overseen by the Ethiopian Football Federation. As of May 2023, they are ranked 125th in the world.They are popularly known as Lucy and Dinknesh in reference to the Australopithecus fossil.

I am the third child of my family and the only female player in my neighborhood. I used to play football with mainly male composed teams both in school football matches and neighborhood football matches in my town Durame. I started playing football at the age of six. In 2011, I participated in the All Ethiopian games representing the SNNP regional state. During the tournament, I scored seven goals, and that became my initial momentum to get noticed by Ethiopian Woman National Team recruiters.

It was very challenging especially being a girl and not many people believed that a girl could play football.
